JOB TITLE: Director, Rally/Solo                       

DEPARTMENTS: Operations

Job Summary: Plans, directs, and coordinates the activities of the Rally and Solo competition departments. Develops new programs/products/services, as well as developing new approaches to existing programs/products/services. Serves as a member of the senior staff in the establishment of strategic and operational plans for the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage functional supervisors, professionals, and support/administrative staff engaged in program planning and operations.
  • Establishes strategic policies, objectives, goals, directives and annual budget for supervised departments to ensure growth and performance.
  • Implement and administer policies established by the Solo Events Board, RallyCross Board and Road Rally Board for program operation.
  • Assists the Executive team in establishing strategic policies and objectives for the entire organization.
  • Researches and develops new programs/products/services for the programs and organization focused on supporting SCCA’s strategic core focus of Member Experience, Operational Excellence and Program Experience & Development.
  • Coordinate execution of the National Solo program with the Manager of National Solo Field Operations.
  • Maintains effective relationships with members, Regions, Divisions, Club officials, field staff, Board of Directors, and commercial partners.
  • Maintains effective relationships with other members of the Executive Team to ensure reaching the strategic objectives of the organization AND supervised departments. Specifically, this includes, but is not limited to, working with the following departments on the stated objectives:

1. Marketing and Communications: maintaining current sponsors and developing new partners.
2. Experiential: Sharing of best practices to develop a best-in-class experience for all members.
3. Membership: increase membership levels.
4. Finance: develop and maintain budget controls.

  • Provide managerial oversight for SCCA’s involvement in Tire Rack Street Survival program.
  • Attend and assist SCCA with select trade show activities, Convention, Partner’s Meetings and Divisional Meetings
  • Develop, administer and monitor the department budget.
  • Support program management tools department wide
  • Coordinate non-racing aspects of events including social and other competitive enhancements
  • Performs special assignments and other duties as identified and/or assigned.

Experience and Training:

  • Minimum Education: Bachelors degree, OR, 6 years at senior management level.
  • Special Training or Experience: minimum of 5 years of responsible management experience and 3 years experience within the SCCA or similar organization. 

Reporting Relationships:

  • This Position Reports to:  Vice President/COO
  • This Position has supervisory and/or management responsibility for: Staff and contract field staff for the following departments: Rally (RallyCross and RoadRally), Solo.

Environmental Requirements:

Work is primarily conducted in an indoor business environment.  Some exposure to unfavorable conditions may be encountered during travel for business requirements located within the areas as well as to member and competition event locations (approximately 10-15 weekends per year).

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires walking 10% of the time, standing 20% and sitting 70% of the time.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull 15 pounds on a daily basis and 30 pounds at events.
  • Ability to participate in high level as well as routine conversation.
  • Conditions may require work in low and bright light; use of near and far vision acuity; use of depth perception, color sensitivity, and a field of vision (peripheral vision).

  • Ability to work weekends for regular travel to SCCA competition events, SCCA meetings, trade shows, and commercial partners.

  • Ability to identify goals and the supporting strategies/tactics.
  • Ability to effectively listen.
  • Ability to effectively understand, facilitate, and interact with complex levels of individual and group relationships within the SCCA.
  • Ability to network and communicate within the SCCA organizational structure and culture.
  • Working knowledge of SCCA competition rules and extensive knowledge of SCCA organizational rules, policies and procedures.
